Tribal students enrollment in schools between class I and class XII increases 9.47%

Enrolment of tribal students in schools between class I and class XII has increased to 9.47 percent of the total school enrolment during the last decade.

This is more significant in view of the fact that whereas tribal population in the country is 8.2 percent of the total population, enrolment is 9.47 percent.

The enrolment percentage of tribal students is significantly higher in north eastern states like Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and union territories like Lakshadweep and Dadra & Nagar Haveli where it varies between 97 and 65 percent of the total school enrolment .



To encourage enrolment of more and more tribal students, Government has allocated Rs 4282.22 crore from 2010-11 till 2013-14 under ten education promotion schemes to supplement the efforts of the Ministry of Human Resource Development to promote education amongst ST population.
