Higher education in India has become a norm, a ritual and not an aspiration

Hyderabad: The two-day Indo-American Education Summit & Expo 2013 with the theme ‘education excellence without borders’ for educational collaborations concluded on 3rd February at Marigold Hotel, Hyderabad. Speaking on the occasion Justice G. Raghuram, Judge, High Court of Andhra Pradesh said that higher education in India has become a norm, a ritual not an aspiration, it has become as basic a human need as hunger. And education should not be pursued like that. Our abysmal quotient in the field of fundamental scientific research puts us back by a century. These are the problems that our academicians will have to grapple with. We need to work hard for providing world class education. I am sure that synergies like this summit will contribute a lot and show solutions for educational problems faced by us. The Valedictory was graced by Dr. K. Ramachandra Murthy, Managing Director, Hyderabad Media House; C.D. Arha, IAS (Retd,), Chairman – The Indus Foundation; S.B. Anumolu, President – The Indus Foundation; M.V. Rajeshwara Rao, Secretary General, The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FAPCCI), Hyderabad.

Dr. K. Ramachandra Murthy, Managing Director, Hyderabad Media House Speaking on the occasion lamented on the neglect of basic research and absence of advance research in our country. He said that we should focus on this. The Indus Foundation is doing great service by organizing summits for exchange of ideas, concepts and knowledge and we have joined hands with them in this cause.

Educational Awards in recognition of contribution and excellence in various academic fields were presented by Justice G. Raghuram at the Valedictory function. Awards for Educational Excellence were given to institutions, faculty, educationists and students from across India in recognition to excellence and contribution in the education field in four different categories viz., Global Awards for Educational Excellence; National Awards for Eminent Educationists; National Awards for Teaching Excellence; and National Awards for Academic Excellence.
