The School of Nursing Army Hospital (Research and Referral) Delhi Cantt and School of Nursing Command Hospital (Central Command) Lucknow have been converted to Colleges of Nursing and are affiliated to Delhi University and Chhatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj Medical University respectively.
This land mark in the field of Nursing Education in the Armed Forces of conversion of Diploma Nursing programme into Baccalaureate program under two prestigious Universities has been achieved on the auspicious occasion of 88th Raising Day of Military Nursing Service. Now they can be called the College of Nursing Army Hospital (R&R) and College of Nursing Command Hospital (Central Command) Lucknow.
The Indian Nursing Council in its resolution has reiterated to convert General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course to B Sc Nursing programme in order to upgrade the educational standard of nursing fraternity. To address the academic needs in the Armed Forces, necessity to upgrade the existing curriculum to B Sc Nursing due to exponential growth of medical knowledge and technology was felt.
School of Nursing Army Hospital (R&R) was started in April 1950 with annual intake of 30 students and School of Nursing Command Hospital Central Command Lucknow was established in the year 1951 with an annual intake of 20 GNM students. Both the institutions are currently offering three and a half year Diploma programme in General Nursing and Midwifery under the DGAFMS Examining Board.
