Lt Gen Anil Chait, CISC in a special function here today flagged-in the NCC Girls Mountaineering expedition team to Mount Shitidhar. The expedition team comprising two officers and 18 girl cadets summited the 17062 ft height peak in Manali this month in two phases.
Addressing the brave cadets the General Officer congratulated them on their praiseworthy feat and making NCC proud by the achievement. The girl cadets were overwhelmed by their maiden adventurous experience which has given them tremendous confidence and strength to face any challenges in the future. This is the 71st expedition undertaken by the National Cadet Corps
The team underwent extensive training in ice-craft, snow craft and avalanche crevassase study before scaling the peak. They established their Base Camp in Beas Khund and attempted the peak in two groups. The first group led by Lt Col Vishal Dubey and two cadets summitted the peak on 02 Oct 13 and the second group led by Capt Deepika Rathore, an Everest Summiteer herself and four girl cadets summitted the peak on 05 Oct 2013 braving icy winds and bad weather.
