ORAL HYGIENE DURING PANDEMIC

corona virus (COVID- 19) is a respiratory illness that is similar to the flu. The main symptoms associated with the corona virus includes cough, fever, and difficulty in breathing (in severe cases).
Those most at risk of this disease are people with underlying health condition and weakened immune system such as people with hypertension, diabetic patients, heart patients.

CLEANING AND HYGIENE TIPS TO PROTECT AGAINST COVID-19

1. PERSONAL HYGIENE
•Cover your face using surgical masks, N-95 or basic home made mask so that your nose and mouth could be covered.
•Wash your hands frequently for atleast 30 seconds.
•Use hand sanitizer ensuring that it contains atleast 60% alcohol.
•Avoid touching your face.
•Don’t cough or sneeze into your hands.
•Maintain distance of atleast 1 metre from people who are coughing or sneezing.

2. CLEANING AROUND HOME
•Wash all your fruits and vegetables before consuming by adding salt and pinch of baking soda in lukewarm water.
•Clean bed sheets, towels, and clothes regularly.
•Wash your hands thoroughly before preparing food at least 30-40 seconds.
•Avoid using frozen or refrigerated food items.

GENERAL AND ORAL HYGIENE TIPS:

 

 

 

Many people do not realise that their tooth brush is infected with bacteria. This will result not only in improper toothbrush care but also can spread contagious diseases such as COVID-19.

Recommended dental hygiene practice includes : Clean and disinfect your toothbrush.
Corona virus can stay on surface for up to 3 days and this includes toothbrush as well. However, you can disinfect your toothbrush daily by rinsing it in 0.5% hydrogen peroxide for upto 15 minutes. Then rinse off with water before brushing.

ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR PRACTICING GOOD ORAL CARE AT HOME INCLUDE:

1. Brush your teeth twice.
2. Use antiseptic mouthwash such as betadine mouthwash or povidone iodine containing mouthwash.
3. Avoid consuming tobacco atleast for now because after taking it people will spit it everywhere which will increase chances of infection.

Maintaining good oral hygiene at home is always necessary to prevent cavities, gum disease and other conditions……
However, it is especially important to take care of your teeth and mouth during the corona virus pandemic to prevent spread of disease.
